Kit Wright is one of Britain’s most popular poets for adults and children. His many books for children include Rabbiting On, Hot Dog, the bestselling Cat Among the Pigeons, and Great Snakes all illustrated by Posy Simmonds. His most recent picture book Dolphinella, (Scholastic) illustrated by Peter Bailey) is “a wonderfully liberating bed-time romp”
(Stephanie Nettle, The Guardian).
His books for adults have won many prizes including the Hawthornden Prize for Literature, and the Royal Society of Literature’s Heinemann Award. Bump-starting the Hearse was “a genuinely dazzling collection” Paul Bailey, The Observer) and “ought to be compulsory reading for all those who believe that art stifles the true voice of feeling” (John Lucas The New Statesman).
Of his most recent collection, Hoping It Might Be So (Leviathan 2000) Vernon Scannell wrote in The London Magazine that “he must be one of the best poets writing in
English today.”
He has been a freelance writer and itinerant bard for twenty-five years, and has just completed a project celebrating the new playground of Daubeney Primary School in the London Borough of Hackney where he lives.
