In partnership with The Independent, The Jaipur Literature Festival and The Children's Bookshow offers a prize of three nights in January 2009 at Asia's most exciting and important literature festival in Jaipur, the famed Pink City. Our winners will be guests of the Jaipur Literature Festival, January 23rd – 27th 2009, which will provide accommodation, 1 child and 1 adult sharing a double room, all meals, return transport from Delhi to Jaipur, and the opportunity to take part in young people's workshops. Flights from a UK airport to Delhi are included in the prize.
3 runners-up will win a year's membership to the Children's Poetry Bookshelf and receive 6 free children's poetry books a year and a 25% discount on other children's poetry books on the backlist.
The DSC Jaipur Literature Festival, considered as Asia's leading literature event, is a celebration of national and international writers and encompasses a range of activities including film, music and theatre. Entering its third year, the festival has already hosted some
of the best-known national and international writers including John Berendt, Kiran Desai, Ian McEwan, Suketu Mehta,
and Salman Rushdie.
The 2009 programme includes readings, talks, literary lunches, debates, performance, children's workshops and interactive activities held in the beautiful heritage property, Diggi Palace in central Jaipur, Rajasthan. Luminaries from the world of literature this year include Colin Thubron, Hari Kunzru, Michael Ondaatje, Pico Iyer, Simon Schama, and Vikram Seth amongst many others.
Festival Background
Jaipur Literature Festival was the initiative of the Jaipur Virasat Foundation
an NGO that works with Rajasthan's musicians and craftspeople to preserve
skills and promote economic livelihoods while protecting heritage.
The Creative Directors are - William Dalrymple, Namita Gokhale and Eleanor O' Keefe and the festival is Produced by Sanjoy K Roy and Teamwork Films.
The five-day festival promises to be among the finest literary events for 2009
with delegations from the UK and USA and book lovers from across Asia
and the world.
